The Wales Family: Harvest
We are pleased to announce we have succeeded in producing our own food. After being heart broken by raccoons eating our almost-ready crop, this week we have finally yielded zuchinni and green beans, and we are so so very close to having cucumbers, tomatoes, and jalepenos. They should be ready by Monday I would assume. We are so proud of ourselves!
Craig and Janae finally did it! Earlier this spring they decided they were going to plant a vegetable garden in their backyard and they are starting to reap the rewards from all their hard work. Almost everyday Craig would tell me about some obstacle he was facing at home with the garden but I am glad to see it is paying off. I really wanted to plant a garden myself but I was took too long to do anything this past spring. I ended building a kids play set in the backyard where my garden would have been so I guess I’ll kiss that dream good-bye for now.
I have been thinking a lot lately about self reliance lately as well as how fast paced our world has become. I truly believe that if I ever have the opportunity to hang up my hat as an independent software developer, I would absolutely love to become a farmer. Not a farmer in the sense that it would be my occupation, but I would completely rely on the land to sustain me and my family.
It’s a dream I hope to realize someday and it will be a lot of work. However, I know it would be very rewarding and life would be much simpler if I didn’t depend so much on the rest of the world. Come to think of it, would the world be much simpler if we didn’t depend so much on other nations economies and relied on our own strength and hard work. Just a thought
